At 6-2 and #3 in Eastern B Boys Ice Hockey, the Black Raiders have proven so far that they can compete with anyone on the ice. The more impressive piece is the leadership that is developing outside the arena.
Alex Berard, Jake Trask, and Jake Larsen are just a few of the leaders that have been instrumental in putting Winslow Ice Hockey back on the map. All three student athletes are part of Leadership 53 and are working hard at being a leader and not just a “Captain.”
On December 13 the Winslow Ice Hockey team, along with booster members, collected food for the needy. They welcomed children to have breakfast and visit with Santa Claus.
More recently team members have supported the Winthrop family and community after a tragic car accident. Some members of Winslow competed on the same travel team as the young man that recently passed.
Regardless of a Win or a Loss, these young men are understanding the life lessons that are associated with athletics. These qualities will no doubt carry over to our Freshman and future Black Raiders. Keep up the good work and continue to strive for excellence in the classroom , in the community, and on the ice.
Former Winslow student athletes took time this morning to speak to current high school students about being a leader now and excelling at the collegiate level. The majority of the panel is or has competed at Division 1 and Division 3 levels. They addressed issues about being a role model, substance use, making a difference in the community, and offered strategies to excel at the next level!
